EN: Portuguese shoes have notorious international acknowledgment for design and quality,  and are currently considered one of the best footwear in the world.

In the first international showrooms where made in Portugal was spread,it was not easy for  footwear industry  to meet new investors due to the lack knowledge about the quality of Portuguese shoes. In fact nowadays it is not the same, made in Portugal is a well-recognized brand.

In order to release the national footwear , a blog was created (http://www.portuguesesoul.com/) about one year ago, as well as the APICCAPS - Associação dos Industriais de Calçado partnership. Besides the blog there is also an annual magazine with the same name “Portuguese Soul” (see bellow). The aim is clearly to broaden in the international market.

In this successful field we can emphasize the stylist Luís Onofre (http://www.luisonofre.com/), one of the most national well known and who states his brand around the world thanks to Michelle Obama, the American first lady and Princess Letizia Ortiz and even the socialite Paris Hilton. The Portuguese stylist has already stated in several interviews that it was not easy to insert his shoes in the market and that he had to adjust to the public in order to be successful. Currently his footwear is well known both for its quality and bold and always modern design.

Another successful brand beyond frontiers is “Fly London” (http://www.flylondon.com/). This brand sells shoes all over the world, over more than 50 countries . Fly has always adopted a global fashion strategy, having been able to establish in more developed countries in terms of fashion, such as England or Italy. The brand distinguishes itself by the modern and eclectic lines as well as by originality, both in design and in the adopted materials, never leaving behind the concern with comfort. The goal is to create a strong and unique identity.

In the last year, the Portuguese footwear strengthened its status as the most positive product which contributed to Portuguese commercial scale, with a positive balance above one billion euros by the end of the year. According to the National Institute of Statistics (NIS) during 2011 the sector exported 95% of its production to more than 130 countries in the five continents ( an increase of 16% when compared to the last year).

Portugal Fashion 2012: Elegância e novidades desfilam no Porto / Oporto's fashion show

EN: This year edition of Portugal Fashion happened on the 22th and 24th of March at the customhouse of Porto where the winter collection’s been presented. Designers from all over Portugal gathered at the border of Rio Douro to teach Portuguese people fashion as well as to stimulate the textile industry. Since 1995, Portugal Fashion has disclosed national collections and its growing has been spectacular.

At the 30th edition of Portugal Fashion, not only haute couture (French for high fashion) was the priority but also prêt-à-porter (Ready to wear), a kind of clothing sold in its finished condition in standardized sizes. This new concept is responsible for fashion diffusion making it more accessible to people with lower purchasing power.

This year, Luís Buchinho played main role at the event. He brought a graphically accentuated collection with unusual combination presented to the press by the organization. Another collection that deserves to be highlighted is LIV, signed by Fernando and Hugo Lopez Veiga. Both stylists define the collection as a “medieval imaginarium” which is developed in “structured shapes and big sizes”, trimmed with black silk, and blue and khaki green pants.

Stylists with a more commercial line such as Diogo Mirand have passed through the customhouse of Porto. He’s presented a pure night collection, with neutral colors and a cleaner esthetic. Regarding to shoes, Luis Onofre collection, predominated by chamois leather or crocodile skin, was highlighted.
